Freestyle Session: Capital Qualifier (2014) – Event Recap

Freestyle Session: Capital Qualifier event, sponsored by Silverback Bboy events & sanctioned by UDEF took place at the U Street Music Hall in Washington, DC on August 10th, 2014 as a part of the Pro Breaking Tour Challenger Series. The event was organized by Urban Artistry and featured a 3vs3 bboy battle for $3150 in cash prizes. The DJ’s for the event were Baronhawk Poitier (Urban Artistry), ManOfGod (Chicago – Motion Disorderz/Rhythm Attack) and Mate Masie (CAB Crew/Urban Artistry) while the judging panel consisted of Bboy Ivan “The Urban Action Figure”, Hannibal (360 Flava) and Stelf (Arrive to Defy).

The skill level was high as crews faced off for the cash prize and trip to the Freestyle Session World Finals in San Diego. The final battle came down to Lionz of Zion from DC and Repstyles from PA/NJ putting everything on the line. Congratulations to Lionz of Zion for emerging as the 1st Place winner, taking home $1500 and a flight with accommodations to the Freestyle Session World Finals, Pro Breaking Tour Champions Series event, November 8th and 9th. Congratulations as well to Repstyles for 2nd Place, taking home $750 as a crew.

Tuner Evolution: Hit the Breaks (2014) – Event Recap

The Hit the Breaks event presented by Silverback BBoy Events & Sanctioned by UDEF took place on August 2nd, 2014 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA inside one of the East Coast’s hottest car shows, Tuner Evolution. The event was organized by Mantiis featured a 2vs2 bboy battle for $2500 in cash prizes and was a part of the $250,000 Pro Breaking Tour’s Challenger Series.

Under the watchful eye of car show goers at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, the bboys came to get down and earn their stripes to the sounds of DJ Foxx Boogie. In the end it was Repstyles from Philadelphia (Mighty Mouse & Shellz) vs M.E.C. (Switch B & Styx) all the way from Toronto, Canada who made it to the final battle. While there were many categories of car awards, there was only one first place bboy crew to be chosen. After a heated battle, it was Repstyles who took the 1st place win and $1200 dollars home while M.E.C. went home with $700 between them for 2nd. Congratulations as well to Onton & Ookie and Supreme Beings for taking 3rd/4th place.

Freestyle Session: Denver (2014) – Event Recap

The Freestyle Session: Denver event, sponsored by Silverback Bboy events & sanctioned by UDEF took place at Beta Nightclub in Denver, Colorado on August 2nd, 2014 as a part of the Pro Breaking Tour Challenger Series. The event co-organized by Delfino & Mario Rodriguez featured a 3vs3 Freestyle Session qualifier bboy battle for $2700 in cash prizes.

There was a great turnout as bboys from all over descended on one of the hottest nightclubs in the country for Denver’s edition of the Freestyle Session qualifier 3vs3 battle. When the end of the night came, it was down to two crews; Freight Rockers from Salt Lake City and DC Spinmasters from Denver. Ultimately it was the Freight Rockers who proved to the judges that they deserved the win, $1500 and we will see them at the Freestyle Session World Finals in San Diego. Congratulations to DC Spinmasters for taking home 2nd place and $750.

WI Wars Finals (2014) – Event Recap

The WI Wars event, presented by Silverback Bboy events & sanctioned by UDEF took place at the MSOE Kern Center ARENA in Milwaukee, WI, on July 26th, 2014 as a part of the Pro Breaking Tour Challenger Series. The event organized by Aleksey “Yosha” Antipov was the 3rd edition of a statewide tournament featuring a UDEF sanctioned 2vs2 battle for $2100 in cash prizes, as well as WI City vs City and WI Kids 1vs1 battles.

In the end the UDEF sanctioned 2vs2 battles came down to Crooks (J Funky & Black Attack) vs Motion Disorderz (Mijo & Alex) in a heated exchange with Crooks crew emerging victorious, taking home $1200, while Motion Disorderz went home with $500 for 2nd place.

In the city vs city battle, defending city champions Milwaukee took the win this year again against Green Bay. For the kids 1vs1 battle, BBoy Free Mason from Madison took 1st place, having previously competed at the Miami Pro-Am earlier this year.

Style Elements 20th Anniversary (2014) – Event Recap

The Style Elements 20th Anniversary event sponsored by Silverback Bboy Events and sanctioned by UDEF, took place on July 19, 2014 at the Roosevelt Community Center in San Jose, CA. Organized by Darrick Fields, the event was part of the $250,000 Pro Breaking Tour’s Challenger Series, and featured a 3vs3 Freestyle Session Qualifier bboy battle judged by Machine (Style Elements/Killafornia), Ricky Stuntman RocAny (Style Elements/FSC), and Ruen (Style Elements/Killafornia).

Style Elements Crew is a staple name of modern breaking in the United States and the event was a great celebration of their 20 years of putting their blood, sweat, and tears into this culture, inspiring bboys and bgirls around the globe for two decades.  The battles were a great testament to the SEC legacy as crews from all over gave it their best to take the win.

Congratulations to Nasty Calamities (Nasty Ray, Eranetik & Lancer) for taking 1st place over Globe Trotters (Soulhouse, Nick Abat & Dev1naire) in the final battle.  Nasty Calamities went home with $1,500 for their win along with a trip to the Freestyle Session World Finals in San Diego, while Globetrotters took home $750 for 2nd place.
Congratulations as well to the semi-final crews, Fresh Descendants  (Thesis, Dapt and Nate the Killa Robot) and Underground Flow (M-Pact, Villn & Philithy) for their awesome performances throughout the event, taking home $450 each for 3rd/4th place.

Break Free (2014) – Event Recap

The Break Free 2014, Pro Breaking Tour, Challenger Series event sponsored by Silverback Bboy Events and sanctioned by UDEF was held on July 11th-13th, 2014 at the Break Free Community Center in Houston, Texas. The event organized by Moy Rivas and Adrian Flores featured a 3vs3 Freestyle Session Qualifier battle, a invitational 7 to Smoke battle and a New Blood battle for the up and coming young bboys and bgirls. The Texan bboy culture was well alive throughout the weekend as some serious competition went down in the Freestyle Session Qualifiers. Nobody had it easy as it came down to HaviKoro and the Monster BBoys in the final battle. With a 2-0-1 decision it was Havikoro that took home the 1st place win and a trip to the Freestyle Session World Finals in November.
The 7 to Smoke battle was intense to say the least with BBoy Lil John of HaviKoro taking home a back to back win in 2013 and 2014!

Freestyle Session: Chicago (2014) – Event Recap

The Freestyle Session: Chicago event took place on July 6th, 2014 at the Chicago Urban Art Society, 600 W Cermak Rd, Chicago, Illinois and featured a Freestyle Session Qualifier 3vs3 bboy crew battle for $3,150 in cash prizes. The event was co-organized by RekSick & CROS1, sponsored by Silverback Bboy Events & sanctioned by UDEF as a part of the Pro Breaking Tour, Challenger Series.

Congratulations to the Crooks (JFunky, CJ & Twigg Fresh) who took 1st place and $1,500, winning over Motion Disorders (Mijo, Man of God & Alex) who took 2nd place and went home with $750.

Floorlords Crew 33rd Anniversary Weekend (2014) – Event Recap

The Floorlords Crew 33rd Anniversary event, presented by Silverback BBoy Events and sanctioned by UDEF took place over the week of June 27-29th, 2014 at the Hiberian Hall and the Villa Victoria Cultural Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Organized by Lino “Leanski” Delgado, this Pro Breaking Tour, Challenger Series event featured a 1vs1 Freestyle Session qualifier battle for $1550 in cash prizes on Friday (Freestyle Session Boston) and a 3vs3 crew battle on Saturday and Sunday for $3150 in cash prizes (United Styles 10).  The 1vs1 battles were judged by El Nino (Floorlords Crew), Gravity (5 Crew Dynasty) and Thesis (Knuckleheads Cali) while the 3vs3 battles were judged by Vicious (Sweet Technique), Frostalino (Ground illusionz) and Zig (Fresh Format Crew).  Holding down the music for the events were DJs Lean Rock, Fleg, B Ryan and Danny Dan.

It was a great weekend with one of the northeast’s most respected crews celebrating their 33rd year in the bboy and hip-hop community.  The battles were fire and many memories were made over the three day event.  For the 1vs1 Freestyle Session qualifier it all boiled down to Ark from Hawaii vs Illz from Toronto, Canada.  The style was real!  After a first class display of Canadian flavor, BBoy Illz from Ground Illusionz crew took the crown and $750 as well as a trip to the Freestyle Session World Finals in San Diego this November.  The 3vs3 battle was even more exciting with a 2 man squad of Last Samurais (Born and Thesis) vs  Flipside Technique (Fleau, Stripes & Promo).  After a heated exchange, Flipside Technique took home the win for $1500 as well as a trip to Philadelphia in October for the Silverback Open Championships.

Universal Danceworks!

The Universal Danceworks! event, presented by Silverback Bboy events & sanctioned by UDEF took place at the 5 Crew Dynasty Headquarters, Inc. , 3114 w. Thomas rd in Phoenix, Arizona on June 21st as a part of the Pro Breaking Tour Challenger Series. The event was organized by  Geoffrey “Toyz” Chang and featured a 2vs2 bboy battle for $2750 in cash prizes.  DJ Fleg kept the excitement level high  while Kloud9 (United Bboys), Jiggz (Supreme BeingZ) and Moy (HAVIKORO) judged the battles.  In the end only one team could emerge victorious and it was Flexanetik (Flexum & Eranetik) who triumphed over United United (Sweet Lu & B-Easy) in the final battle.
