Who Can Roast the Most? 23 (2014) – Event Recap

The Who Can Roast The Most?, Pro Breaking Tour, Challenger Series event took place on October 4th, 2014 at The Stage in Miami Florida and featured a 2-on-2 breaking battle for $3,550 in cash prize money. The event was presented by Silverback Bboy Events and sanctioned by UDEF, with a payout of $1,500 for 1st place, $750 for 2nd place, $250 each for 3rd/4th place, $100 each crew for quarterfinal losers, and $50 each crew for the Top 16 losers. The battles were judged by Remind (Style Elements), Ghost (Lionz of Zion), and Bebe (Ground Zero Crew) and DJs Bebe, Immortal, El Abstrakto, Seamstar, Geishaz, Rage Johnson and Kid Master held down the wheels of steel.

Who Can Roast the Most? Has always been an iconic event in the bboy scene and we were happy to have it along the tour this year. The battles were crazy as to be expected from a jam with such a competitive history of grudge matches. In the end it was Repstyles (Knuckles & Mighty Mouse) who won 1st place and $1,500 over Underground Rockers (Mennex & Mannyfrost) who took home $750 for 2nd place. Illest B-Boy Battle Finals (2014) – Event Recap

The Illest B-Boy Battle Finals Event presented by Silverback Bboy Events and sanctioned by UDEF took place on September 27th, 2014 at the Dance Asylum in Costa Mesa, CA. This Pro Breaking Tour, Challenger Series event organized by Donovan Demerin featured a 3-on-3 open bracket breaking battle for $1,425 and a closed bracket 2-on-2 battle for $1,900 for the Illest Finals. The battles were judged by T-Rock (OC), Charles (Soul Control/Climax), and Jeskilz (Cypher Adikts)

Congratulations to Killafornia (Lil Rock, Lancer & Eranetik) for taking the 3-on-3 first place win and $750 over Business Time Mavericks (Khoa, Victor & Swif) who took home $350 for second place.
Also congratulations to Fallen Kings (Morris & Kareem) for taking first place and $1000 in the 2-on-2 battle over Gorilla Warfare/Beatz N Pieces (Jam-Rock & Kayotik) who went home with $500 for second.

Southeast BBoy Championships 5 (2014) – Event Recap

The Southeast BBoy Championships 5 event presented by Silverback Bboy Events and sanctioned by UDEF took place on September 20th, 2014 at the Asheville Masonic Temple in Asheville, North Carolina. This Pro Breaking Tour, Challenger Series event organized by Frantic Chef and DJ Brett Rock featured a 3-on-3 breaking battle for $2,100 and a 1-on-1 breaking battle for $750 and a trip to the UK Champs battle in Birmingham, England. The judges for the event were Kid Glyde (Dynamic Rockers), Y-Not (Backyard Funk), and Marlon ( Havikoro) with DJs Alphatrion, Brett Rock, and Aswell providing the music for the battle.
A day of intense battles led up to some great finals as it was Omen (Supreme Beingz) vs Jiggz (Supreme Beingz) in the 1-on-1 final, with Omen taking home the win and $400 in addition to a trip to England for the UK Champs and Jiggz taking home $200 for second place. Pete Nasty and Keebz also went home with $75 each for 3rd/4th place.
In the 3-on-3 it Supreme Flava (Fantum, Hannibal and Omen) who took first place and $400 each over Scribes of Warfare (PG, Kelvin & Oath) who each won $200 for second place. In 3rd/4th place with each bboy taking home $50, it was Schmurder Team (Mouse, Jiggz and Spydey) and Break-Sprace-Funk (Loose Lee, Born and Sted Love).

Canada Pro 1vs1 BBoy Championship @ The Manifesto Festival (2014) – Event Recap

The Canada Pro 1vs1 BBoy Championship event presented by Silverback Bboy Events and sanctioned by UDEF took place on Saturday September 20th, 2014 at the Yonge-Dundas Square in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada as a part of the Manifesto Festival 8; a weekend celebration of Art, Dance, Music and Culture with dance competitions and performances by notable hip–hop music artists. This Pro Breaking Tour, Challenger Series event organized by Jon ‘Drops’ Reid featured a 1-on-1 breaking battle for $2,000 and a trip to the Silverback Open Championships in Philadelphia. Judges for the day were Macca (PHL), Toyz (MD), and Vicious (MTL), with the one and only Skeme Richards on the decks laying down the beats for the battle.

It was a beautiful day in the square as Toronto natives gathered around to see the bboys and bgirls battle it out under the sun for a shot at the $1,000 first place prize and trip to Philadelphia. Surrounded by a crowd eager to see a champion emerge, the dancers put their hearts on the floor and showed Toronto what they were made of. As the afternoon went on, it became clear who was out for the win and soon it was down to just two competitors, Onton from Supernaturalz Crew and Switch B from F.A.M. who took to the main stage to see who prove themselves the victor.

After an exciting exchange on the stage, with a sea of spectators looking on, the judges came to choose the funky floor assassin, Switch B as the Canada Pro 1vs1 BBoy Champion, taking home $1,000 and a trip to Philadelphia for the Silverback Open Championships, while Onton, giving it his all walked away with $500 for second place. In 3rd/4th place were Styx and Tricky Troublez who each took home $250.

Deuces Wild x Freestyle Session Atlanta (2014) – Event Recap

The Deuces Wild x Freestyle Session Atlanta Qualifier event sponsored by Silverback Bboy Events and sanctioned by UDEF took place on Saturday, September 13th, 2014 at the Best Friend Park Gymnasium in Norcross, Georgia. This Pro Breaking Tour, Challenger Series event organized by Johnny Le featured a 3-on-3 breaking battle for $3,150 with the winners also landing a round-trip flight to the Freestyle Session World Finals in San Diego on November 8th and 9th. The battles were judged by Born (Rivers/Korea), Frantic (Dynamic Rockers/NC) and Frankie Flave (Killafornia/CA) while DJs Skeme Richards and Alphatrion provided the music.
In the end it was Flipside Disorders who won first place taking home $1,500 and the round-trip tickets to San Diego over Loose Sted Killa in second place taking home $750. In 3rd/4th place were Full Clip and Scribes of Warfare who each won $450 per crew.

Art of War (2014) – Event Recap

The Art of War event, presented by Silverback Bboy events & sanctioned by UDEF took place at the White Rabbit on North St. Mary’s Street in San Antonio, Texas on August 30th, 2014 as a part of the Pro Breaking Tour Challenger Series. The event organized by Omar Davila & Mark A. Gonzalez featured a 1-on-1 bboy battle for $2,000 as well as live graffiti and a beat battle. The bboy battle was judged by Mondo (Grimeez), Drop Jules (MZK), and Palmer (Havikoro) and there was some serious competition to be sure.

After a long day of intense battles, it came down to just two bboys, crewmate vs crewmate; Moy vs Jeremy, both of Havikoro crew. It was a heated battle, but the Monster in Moy prevailed and he walked away with the first place win and $1,000, while Jeremy went home with $500 for second place.

The event was a great collaboration of the Texas hip-hop community, representing many different elements throughout the weekend. Many bboys traveled from out of town to make the event and it will surely be memorable to all.

Concrete All-Stars 10th Anniversary (2014) – Event Recap

The Concrete All-Stars 10th Anniversary event took place on August 23rd, 2014 at Los Globos nightclub in Los Angeles and featured a 3-on-3 bboy battle for $2400 in cash prize money as well as a 1-on-1 footwork battle for $750. As an added feature, there were two exhibition battles; Vicious -Sweet Technique/Boogie Brats (Canada) vs. Jayd-illa -Concrete Allstars/Breakfluid and Bgirl Macca -360 Flava (Philadelphia) vs. Wonda -Concrete Allstars. The event was organized by Samuel “Panda” Nakama and was a part of the Pro Breaking Tour Challenger Series.
BBoys came from all over the country to help to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of a crew that has proven itself one of the best in the west year after year. The DJ lineup was no joke as DJs Havik, Lean Rock, Mark Luv, Roxswift and Kenzo laid down the tracks for an evening of raw cyphers and hype battles.

Congratulations to LODB (Machine, Zick & Kid Steez for taking the 1st place win over Docious Force (Sa-Ewl, Maynard & Prinz Harry) in the final 3-on-3 bboy battle and also to Squid for taking home the footwork battle win over Julez in the finals.

IPhlow 2 (2014) – Event Recap

The IPHLOW2 event presented by Silverback Bboy Events & sanctioned by UDEF took place at the 5STAR CUTS BARBERSHOP West Kendall Miami, Florida on Saturday, August 23 2014 as part of the Pro Breaking Tour, Challenger Series. The event organized by Mario Toledo featured a 2-on-2 bboy battle for $1,950.

Crews came from all over to compete for the 1st place prize of $1,200. A mix of Miami natives and bboys from the northern U.S. and France. This second annual installment of the event saw many more bboys than last year coming out with hopes to continue that trend into next year. Notable names in the breaking/graffiti scene who came out to support include Bboy “BraveMonk” Phaze2 Crew from Chicago, Bboy “BooRoc” Ground Zero Crew Miami, Bboy “Lego” Flipside Kings Miami, Bboy “Stripes” Flipside Kings Miami, Bboy “Kid Freeze” Dynamic Rockers/ StreetMasters New York among others. IPHLOW2 was an outdoor event with free entry along with food and giveaways for all who were there to support. The event ran 5pm to 1am with the police even showing up to support and record the final battle.

Under the cover of night, the final battle came down to Flipside Kings (Stripes & Lego) vs RawMeatCrew (Zao & Fantum) with the smooth styles of Flipside edging out RawMeat for the win. Stripes & Lego went home with $1200 for first place while Zao & Fantum split $500 for second.

IPHLOW2 was a great experience for the bboys with joy and raw love shown from all who came out. Keep your eyes peeled for IPHLOW3 next year.

Freestyle Session Las Vegas (2014) – Event Recap

 

The Freestyle Session: Las Vegas event, sponsored by Silverback Bboy events & sanctioned by UDEF took place at Mia’s Banquet Hall in Las Vegas, Nevada  on August 16, 2014 as a part of the Pro Breaking Tour Challenger Series. The event organized by Footwork Production featured a 3vs3 Freestyle Session qualifier bboy battle for $3,150 in cash prizes.

One of the hottest stops on this year’s Pro Breaking Tour was undoubtedly the Freestyle Session Las Vegas qualifier. When you have some of the best bboys in the country under one roof and DJ’s like Skeme Richards and BzBeats on the decks, it is a recipe for one amazing day of battling.  And of course overseeing the competition, the esteemed judging panel consisting of Roxrite, Flexum, and Marlon.

Congratulations to Boogie Brats (Vicious, El Nino & Neguin) for taking the 1st place win and will be and $1500 over Dynamic Dynasty (Kid Glyde, Gravity & Neo) who went home with $750.

The day certainly had its stand outs among the competitors, such as the Maya brothers, Master Mace and Weapon X, along with Zeku; The Silverback Young Bloods.  They showed the crowd just how high the competition level is getting when the young generation can keep up with the pros.

McDonald’s: B-Boy Royale (2014) – Event Recap

Update 8/17/14: A winner has been crowned! The event was a roaring success at the Skirball Center on August 16th with a full crowd and a room filled with electricity from the bboys on stage giving it their all.  Congratulations to the Clique of Supreme Beingz (Ken Fury, Frankie & Hannibal) for taking the win and the McDonald’s B-Boy Royale champion belt along with the adoration of the onlooking fans.   Even more exciting news, the New York Times has run an article in review of the event which can be found here.

It’s great to see this kind of publicity as we continue to grow support for the bboy scene in the United States.  Next year should see even more exciting events and sponsors coming to the table.  A big congratulations to the team involved in running this event, we look forward to seeing what gets cooked up next.
